(I do not mean to rec or associate with Persephone's Waltz, but I'd already clicked the kudos tag by the time I found the sex scene.)
*Tag search doesn't help very much if you're looking for things without commonly known terminology, e.g. goudere characters.
A great deal of the learning curve would've been simplified I'd actually seen the instructions earlier.
This might be from the Binding Universe, but perhaps not. I'm not entirely sure it fits.

On a high cliff, in a faraway country, there is a monument. It is a long slab of metal, upon which are engraved many words, in many languages, and it is capped with a short pole.

There is a legend, in that country, that the monument was once a sword, that each word on it's surface is one of the names of it's victims, and that it swelled to include the new one whenever it took a life. There is but one exception; an old, old inscription on the hilt, reading: "Wonders Cease".

The legend says that the sword has been taken up many times, by many wielders, but not once lost or stolen, and that the last great hero of the land, weary of it's weight, planted it in a cliff near where it was first forged. He went his way, and never took up arms again.

Perhaps it is true. <span style="background-color: transparent; color: black; font-family: "arial"; font-size: 14.666666666666666px; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: 700; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline;">The Thousand Hand School of Darkshaping<span style="background-color: transparent; color: black; font-family: "arial"; font-size: 14.666666666666666px; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: 400; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline;"> is a somewhat obscure school of martial arts. It was developed in the eleventh century as an offshoot of prosthetics research, and focuses on duplicating one’s limbs both on their body and in their environment.
<span style="background-color: transparent; color: black; font-family: "arial"; font-size: 14.666666666666666px; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: 400; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline;">Much of the reason for its obscurity is its difficulty, as it requires both precise casting of Darkness to mold one’s own limbs, and then a measured release that preserves the form both during release and in transit. Another reason is it is usually found to be unnerving, partly because Lightwielding is used to move the generated limbs.
<span style="background-color: transparent; color: black; font-family: "arial"; font-size: 14.666666666666666px; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: 400; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline;">The main reason it's survived is its speed. By relying so heavily on self-lensing their constructs (a technique where Light or Darkness is filtered through the caster's body before casting, greatly speeding formation at the cost of having a fixed point of origin and, in the case of Lightwielding, considerable risk), Thousand Hand techniques are extremely fast - and by using minimal amounts of Light to move one's constructs without actually reshaping them, it stays that way, while remaining surprisingly versatile.
<span style="background-color: transparent; color: black; font-family: "arial"; font-size: 14.666666666666666px; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: 400; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline;">More advanced Thousand Hand techniques involve varying the shape, size, and to a limited degree the materials of the generated limbs, and eventually grew to include modifying one's regular limbs on a temporary or permanent basis. As body-modification disciplines go it's quite limited, but remarkably safe.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4061802673340377903.post-43813466255817800892015-11-13T05:23:00.000-08:002016-04-20T15:46:05.595-07:00Vaccine Williams Hi. He's quite proud of this snippet, as well; it's the beginning to a Choose your Own Adventure-style story, that shall probably involve alchemy. And violence, lots of violence.

---

Ugh. I think there’s more shrapnel in my gut than intestine, at this
point. The blood’s mostly stopped, that’s probably a bad sign.
The pillar behind me is hard, but not cold anymore. I should hope so, I’ve bled over it long enough. How long has
it been, anyway? A minute? An hour? Not long enough for that guy to
stop singing, at least. I keep hearing snatches, but it’s so hard to
make out. “You are my sunshine… when thou art near me… thy Light has
brought me… to~o this place...”
What is he singing? Why is he there? Does he know I’m alive?
Was he the one who tried to kill me?
Ow. I feel sick.

The viewpoint of a woman, running from
some other figures. Blue uniforms? But blurry, I - she’s? running.
Surrounded. She stops. She’s holding something. Stabs it into her wrist.
Laughs. Her features start to change, hair grows longer, fanned out by
gunfire. Gunfire? Hair fanned out by the gunfire, as it riddles her
body.
My body. I’m standing, laughing. My clothes are shredded, but the
blood’s obscuring that. I’m in a clearing - alleyway? Plaza? Somewhere
small and circular, in the city. Around me, there are a bunch of people
on the ground, riddled with bullets. There’s a lot of blood here. I’m still laughing. My mind is hazy, but laughing feels good. I
feel good. Euphoric. Weirdly so, like there’s also nausea, or maybe
hints of pain. Would those be bad? It seems like it, but I can’t tell.

[ ] Start investigating the people on the ground.
--[ ] You need clothes. You think you ought to feel cold.
--[ ] Make sure they don't get up again.
--[ ] They might need help.
--[ ] They’re just interesting. (Default)
[ ] Run. You might not be safe here. You remember being chased.
--[ ] There’s a path just a little to the right of where you’re facing. Were you going that direction?
--[ ] Up one of the walls. Could you do that, before? It feels obvious.
--[ ] Out the alley behind you. They won’t be expecting that.
[ ] Examine yourself.
--[ ] Start playing with your hair. Partway down, it changes color! Where it's not bloodstained, that is.

The author was quite sure it was still Thursday, but apparently he was an hour off. The most likely culprit is Daylight Savings Time.
In any case, this is a list of bosses in a videogame the author had been scripting, but considering it's age, likely incomplete.

Early model, fed enough weapons that it’s grown beyond the original size and firepower specifications, at the cost of gaining enough independence to be a potential hazard if allowed to develop further. The project was shelved due to lack of subtlety, precision, or low cost per unit compared to the newly developed Wraith units, and the only working prototype was kept at the main storage facility as a guard dog/building specific mascot that rarely saw combat. (But was still pleasantly intimidating, and could destroy anything else stored in that warehouse if it escaped.) Vant crossed paths with it fairly early in his rampage, and the guards only started getting really serious after he destroyed it in three minutes and consumed the remains. It was four legged, had six rocket launchers, two to each arm, one each for the shoulders, and its four claw legs had the dual purpose of allowing it to brace itself and dig through almost all materials. A head-mounted cutting laser was intended for later designs, but never implemented.

<span style="background-color: transparent; color: black; font-family: "arial"; font-size: 14.666666666666666px; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: 700; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline;">The Lords of Silence<span style="background-color: transparent; color: black; font-family: "arial"; font-size: 14.666666666666666px; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: 400; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline;">: The Twelve Lords of Silence, four of which are reserved for the Queen of Dead Echoes’ honor guard. They are all weaker, weaponless, nonsentient imitations of her. Fought twice, once when the eight deployed as a defense against airstrikes drive Vant back indoors, where they don’t have enough room to maneuver, and the second time shortly after Vant absorbs Bombshell, where he’s actually able to hit them. They get called back shortly after he starts killing them, but he still gets at least three. He is, however, incompatible with their masks and robes, as they’re designed to show absolutely no identity, and conceptually opposed to his nature as a face-stealer variant.

Essentially a flying, better armored, ridiculously fast Shock Trooper, it uses rockets placed strategically around it’s body to outpace most targeting systems, including Vant’s, and has an inherent immunity to homing effects. Four working copies have been made, and trained in assistive movement, but mass production was being held off until a solution could be found to the glitch that caused them to pause when they made contact with each other. The four prototypes ambushed Vant soon after the Lords of Silence drove him back inside, but he was (predictably) able to exploit the glitch to defeat and consume them.

<span style="background-color: transparent; color: black; font-family: "arial"; font-size: 14.666666666666666px; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: 700; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline;">Yuuyel<span style="background-color: transparent; color: black; font-family: "arial"; font-size: 14.666666666666666px; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: 400; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline;">: A Machine King commando sent to investigate the facility for completely unrelated reasons, who ended up crossing paths with Vant. Vant presumed he was another guard, Yuuyel decided that the rampaging robotic abomination was probably something he was allowed to shoot, and they dueled. He was also presumed to be working with Vant from approximately the minute he made himself known, and the “shoot first, questions later” attitude of the base security only added to SRF's legal embarrassment after the fact.
<span style="background-color: transparent; color: black; font-family: "arial"; font-size: 14.666666666666666px; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: 400; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline;">Yuuyel is the protagonist of Yuuyel Mode, which follows his misadventures as he attempts to use his Covert Entry Warrant and stealth specialization to discreetly sweep the Sulieman Research Facility for highly illegal weapons, only to be mistaken for an infiltrator working with the Rogue (Vant), and shot at. Uses a rocket launcher with an underslung plasma cutter, and has a grappling hook launcher attached to each limb. The trick to defeating him is to attack his grappling lines with heat or cold, and use explosives when he tries to hide. Electrocuting them also works, but only if he’s not grounded at the time.
The working theory was that the Type II Artificial Wraith had attempted to repair itself with nearby materials and accidentally absorbed the not-quite-metal of a mostly dead Combat Doppelganger, which was looking for new parts to copy. It is believed to have either then shot down or merely recovered a previously crashed fighter/bomber, and proceeded to absorb it. It is known to be mostly still loyal to the U.S. military, and capable of flight, transformation between several preset modes, and generating complex ammunition types, all facilitated by the 'Bluefire' matter reorganization phenomenon. It can also apparently make generated projectiles explode into Bluefire on contact, suggesting more innovation than normally expected of a drone, and was being vetted for tampering before it was destroyed by Vant.
This allows her to match velocities with supersonic projectiles, one major distinction from the Lords of Silence, and she can also produce noise rather than simply modulating silence, however they do share in common the inability to move slower than the speed of sound. Her movement abilities are shared with her weapon, which takes the form of a five pointed star that splits into psuedo boomerangs. It may or may not be correct.

<span style="background-color: transparent; color: black; font-family: "arial"; font-size: 14.666666666666666px; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: 400; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline;">In the Observed universe, Powers are based on Pacts, not the other way around. The First True Power was something like a shared fantasy, allowing simple descriptions to evoke much more detailed scenes, providing faster, more advanced communication than would otherwise be possible. These were not always fully accurate: Lies, delusions, and the simple limits of memory and perspective could translate almost as easily as the truth. But the scenes were curious for two reasons. First, that both parties could always agree on the details when they shared one, although they almost never appeared from the perspective of an actual creature present at the event, and second, that they were not always consistently achievable, even with the exact same people and the exact same story.

<span style="background-color: transparent; color: black; font-family: "arial"; font-size: 14.666666666666666px; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: 400; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline;">There was a man, generations before the first Pact was devised, who had devoted himself to studying this phenomenon. His true name has probably been lost to the mists of time; all the myths call him some variant of Andralusia, a word meaning Wise One, but there are some hints that this meaning came into being afterwards. In any case, his work was extensive, cataloging the numerous factors that seemed to influence whether a vision would happen or not, and what visions could show. He made early forays into how it rarely hindered combat, but he was primarily concerned with how personal biases could affect visions, and more troublingly, how the factors that most influenced successful visions seemed to be the drama they involved - even if none of the people involved knew it. He posited that the visions were not truly those of humans, but that they were simply sharing the sight of things outside the world, be it angels in heaven or devils in hell.

<span style="background-color: transparent; color: black; font-family: "arial"; font-size: 14.666666666666666px; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: 400; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline;">This was by far his most controversial point, as the First True Power had long been thought a natural phenomenon, exclusive to humans, and it had also been proved that trainable human action was a necessary factor in making them possible. Nevertheless, he managed to get enough of the local church on his side that he wasn’t executed for heresy, and his theories were mostly left alone, not quite in obscurity.

<span style="background-color: transparent; color: black; font-family: "arial"; font-size: 14.666666666666666px; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: 400; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline;">Several generations later, another man would look at Andralusia’s inconclusive research into midcombat visions, and realize that not only did they rarely hinder the viewer, they also appeared to grant greater strength and motivation, even when initially triggered by paralysis or indecision. He posited that the connection to the true viewers of the visions granted some power that both parties could manipulate, and believed that this could finally prove their existence. He devised a contract, in which he would make one of two simple choices based on different stimuli, and would be given power to work with at the same time, so he could learn what was possible with it. He tried several different methods of attracting attention to it, finally succeeding with a simple but difficult game of skill (bouncing a ball against a wall), which he challenged the Observer to beat.

<span style="background-color: transparent; color: black; font-family: "arial"; font-size: 14.666666666666666px; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: 400; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline;">To his surprise and fascination, it did. In one try.

<span style="background-color: transparent; color: black; font-family: "arial"; font-size: 14.666666666666666px; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: 400; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline;">His physical performance was improved, albeit within expected parameters, and was also remarkably uniform; there were very few random or wasted movements, despite the simplicity of the instructions he had made himself susceptible to. He suspected that that simplicity was in fact the cause, and he was mostly correct; he hadn’t specified free movement otherwise, and the power he was channeling optimized his stance. Several more tests correlated this, and he realized that it was probably impossible to channel the power granted by the connection in any way not previously specified, explaining something about visions. As to the Observer’s apparent skill, he had several theories, but assumed that the most likely explanation was that they were simply some degree of omniscient.

<span style="background-color: transparent; color: black; font-family: "arial"; font-size: 14.666666666666666px; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: 400; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline;">He immediately set out to learn the limits of what was possible with his Pact, starting with whether or not he could modify it while it was still running. He learned that it was possible but very difficult to do so without also changing his physical abilities, such as picking up a weapon or tool, and that simple effects were the easiest to grant, although they could be layered to achieve more fantastic abilities fairly easily. He spent quite some time playing around with various devices and the powers they granted, but he wasn’t done yet. At this point, his suspicions of the Observers true nature were rudimentary, based solely on the fact that it hadn’t killed him during his testing despite having obvious difficulty, but his eventual confirmation that they weren’t bound by time in the same way as humans came completely by accident. He was testing a new type of movement when his Observer made him dodge several obstacles he hadn’t seen while sharing it’s sight. This was unsurprising, what was surprising was that he learned of a much less frustrating path after he had already terminated all Observation Windows, with more rewards.

<span style="background-color: transparent; color: black; font-family: "arial"; font-size: 14.666666666666666px; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: 400; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline;">He eventually figured out that he could create a clause that would improve his powers as he fulfilled simple conditions, such as collecting materials or completing challenges.

<span style="background-color: transparent; color: black; font-family: "arial"; font-size: 14.666666666666666px; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: 400; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline;">He realized fairly quickly that if he made the conditions for advancement too simple, his Observer would lose interest, having gained some experience with their psychology in the course of his studies.

<span style="background-color: transparent; color: black; font-family: "arial"; font-size: 14.666666666666666px; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: 400; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline;">And so he made his Pact enhance some aspects of new things he encountered, thus creating scaling difficulty. It worked... <span style="background-color: transparent; color: black; font-family: "arial"; font-size: 14.666666666666666px; font-style: italic; font-variant: normal; font-weight: 400; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline;">spectacularly<span style="background-color: transparent; color: black; font-family: "arial"; font-size: 14.666666666666666px; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: 400; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline;">.

The author, sadly, has not the time to edit this now, but would like to point out that the classification here is flawed, due to the people who made it working from incomplete data. Enjoy a bit of fluff he wrote for Grace, who he may not have introduced properly yet.
Prevents stage two. Physical effects are slightly enhanced strength, immunity to pain, and eyes glowing a faint purple.

Stage Two: Subject gets weaker and more brittle, due to the muscular system beginning to fragment. Subject is producing Dark Light Particles, but in levels low enough to only trigger Extinguisher Syndrome in people within roughly a foot of their exposed skin.

Stage Three: Same as Stage Two, but with the addition of Extinguisher Syndrome. Mental processes are degraded, but to a slightly lesser degree then most Stage One affectees, and Dark Light progress is halted, making this the second most common stage. Further progression at this point is rare, as anyone who reaches Stage Two and then contracts Extinguisher Syndrome eventually fights Dark Light off completely if left uninterrupted.

Stage Four: Subject is significantly more fragile, and subdermal segmenting begins to happen in force. Probably includes significant mental boosts, although the personality that surfaces due to this is usually quite a bit more simple and short term oriented than the original, although this is probably due mainly to Extinguisher Syndrome. As no one has been known to stay in this stage for more than a day, and none of the known cases were conscious at the time. Very little is known about this stage directly, mainly due to the lack of subjects, and most of what is believed is guesswork based on Stage Five.

Stage Five: If a Stage Two patient falls unconscious long enough to reach Stage Four, and then wakes up, they will almost immediately contract Extinguisher Syndrome. They then usually regress to Stage Three in a matter of minutes, but sometimes, rarely, stay in Stage Five. Stage Five is characterized by enhanced strength, which resembles telekinetic manipulation of the individual body segments more than actual musculature, most of which which has crystallized to varying degrees. Stage Five also includes more a coherent mind than any prior stage, to the point that they resemble people functioning under a large disconnect, such as the side effects of some sedatives. It should be noted that despite having fewer restraints, for good or ill, they are not stupid. They are generally quite clever, if somewhat slow to act on it, and may become more introverted than they were before their transformation. Due to Grace’s unique level of control over her individual segments, it has been proposed that she reclassified as Stage Six, with the current Stage Six being reclassified Stage Seven, but with the currently tiny sample base to have demonstrated either, the reclassification has been deemed irrelevant for the time being.

Stage Six: Only one known case exists on record; Subject Tiamat. Or Grace, as she prefers. A temporary effect only, but an incredibly powerful one. Upon activation, Grace segments completely, and the shards turn an off white as opposed to the obsidian they were. Significantly more long range telekinesis becomes available, at the cost of most precision. Interestingly, the duration of the telekinesis can apparently be consciously charged, so long as the shard is in contact with the main mass, implying that it is based on a similar principle to detached forcefields. Unlike Stage Six, which seems to at least mostly follow conservation of mass, Stage Seven seems to ignore it almost entirely, generating new shards within seconds of loss. As there is no evidence of extradimensional storage, this lends more weight to the theory that the shards are forcefield based.

The defining aspect of a Hero is conviction. They express when a human makes the decision to stand for their morals against the entire world, if necessary, and their powers reflect this, both in that they separate the Heroes from the world and that they can change their shape, but not their own form. They tend to be honest and straightforward, but this seems to be a side effect of the expression criteria. Heroes are instinctively uncompromising, and there is a notable tendency for them to become intolerant of people they don’t like and suspicious of anyone else’s authority.

In terms of combat style, they tend to start out as sneaky melee tricksters, and end up as incredibly powerful battlefield controllers. Their learning curve is the shortest of the three, and once they figure out how to cut things by phasing tiny sections of them, they are close to unstoppable without powers of one’s own.

The defining aspect of a Rival is yearning, or perhaps desire for power. By nature, Rivals are incomplete, both physically and mentally, and can only grow when striving for something beyond their reach. The powers express when someone becomes willing to tear themselves apart, to destroy themselves in mind and body for the sake of a single goal. As soon as that decision is made, they start crafting their armor. Rival powers reflect this determination, focusing the force their armor conducts towards a single target. The oldest Rivals dismiss the idea of “mastering” Rival Complex, stating that a full suit of armor, theoretically the end of Rival development, is merely a plateau and that striving for the unachievable is the only way a Rival may truly live. This leads to restlessness, which is often misdiagnosed as an inherent effect of Rival Complex.

In terms of combat ability, they start as only somewhat mobile martial artist/gymnast melee and projectile fighters, and eventually become nigh indestructible, practically unstoppable monstrosities with very few weaknesses. Their armor also seems to have variable mass, but so far this has only appeared to manifest in the most advanced cases where Rivals completed their original armor and then added more layers, so accurate testing is difficult to say the least.

The defining aspect of an Overlord, however, is betrayal. Overlord Complex manifests in those who betray themselves to the core, who abandon someone or something that defined them, who turn away from, or more rarely, towards danger, who give or take something that they defined themselves by holding or avoiding, and who do it too suddenly to be a natural growth. Their powers focus on pushing things out of place, and their minds are instinctively more duplicitous, manipulative, and prone to holding grudges. Overlord Complex is the one that convinced people that powers have mental effects, as it’s are by far the most obvious; empathy is stunted, often severely, guilt is possible but easily suppressed, and also disconnected from the instinct to keep secrets, which is severe and reasonably constant. Conversely, there is an impulsive need to show off, to draw attention, and to display power, which was probably the biggest giveaway that the effects weren’t natural. Overlord Complex also has the most instinctive aspect of any of the powers, in one facet only; the irises glow with Overlord energy fields. Care must be taken to suppress the effect, although the urge to do so when it is discovered is significant, suggesting a built incentive for training control. It is also the only obvious aspect of any of the powers when not being actively used, as it’s pretty much always on unless consciously suppressed. Hence, tired, angry, or partially awake Overlords tend to let it slip their control, causing their eyes to flash purple.

In terms of combat ability, Overlords start out as fragile ranged combatants, and progress to become superfast, superstrong flying artillery units.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4061802673340377903.post-41491408696855246332015-09-24T20:00:00.000-07:002015-09-24T20:00:14.592-07:00Glyph DesignsHi. Another post from before this blog was even thought of. The author had been reading Neon Genesis Evangelion fanfic, you see, and this led to a list of "Angel" names, which in turn led to some glyph designs. He did some drawings, which he'll probably upload later.
His ideas for these have changed over the years, so he may end up changing the descriptions.
They have no definite gender, and are usually referred to by the default for the language being spoken, although sometimes one is said to be male and the other female.
The one referred to as Safe has every known active defense or shielding ability, including several that can do severe damage, and the one known as Deadly has almost every known destructive ability. Neither of them can use more than a fraction of their powers at once, but even that fraction is quite extensive, compared to many Pacts.
As Deadly is somewhat erratic and highly prone to berserking, it cannot be safely deployed or stored without Safe to keep it contained, and for this reason Safe cannot be deployed alone either.
In appearance, they look like mostly identical, highly androgynous robotic figures, whose physical characteristics depend on their current specialization. The only visible difference between the two is the fact that Safe has white armor and Deadly has red, although their abilities, when active, generally take very different forms.
They upgrade themselves constantly, automatically copying Abilities as they come into being, but have never been reproduced, for several reasons.
They are also known as Sword and Shield, Sheath and Bomb, the Terrors, and possibly Triumph and Disaster, although this last may be unrelated.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4061802673340377903.post-10482912520232759722015-09-10T19:47:00.002-07:002015-09-10T19:47:47.627-07:00Arc Laser (Binding Universe)Roughly half a year after the development of Optical Lance, a further permutation was established, combining it with Laser Wire to allow indirect fire, but still staying compatible with Flare Lenses. This permutation, properly named Arc Laser, has been adopted widely as a military weapon. As appropriate defenses are becoming more common, it has not entirely supplanted enhanced conventional artillery.

<span style="font-family: "Courier New",Courier,monospace;">Name: Arc Laser
<span style="font-family: "Courier New",Courier,monospace;">Range: Unlimited
<span style="font-family: "Courier New",Courier,monospace;">Uses: Active
<span style="font-family: "Courier New",Courier,monospace;">Fuel Cost: Variable (Moderate)
<span style="font-family: "Courier New",Courier, monospace;">Notable Attributes: Tracking (Aimable), Parallel Deployment Affinity (High)
<span style="font-family: "Courier New",Courier, monospace;">Comments: Difficult for humans to produce directly, although firing from a spherical aura appears to be a suitable workaround, as do projectors formed from Ray Armor. Also difficult to fire less than three at a time, although if the range is deliberately limited, it becomes much easier.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4061802673340377903.post-68087556289321554532015-09-03T22:03:00.000-07:002015-09-03T22:03:00.429-07:00Alterman Extended CastHi. Top end for speed, bottom for strength and durability, upper middle endurance. Had a very powerful static field that he had to charge by running, and although he never did much damage, he was very difficult for to catch, zapping anyone who managed to get close. A pity he's so late, but he did warn you.

Six years prior to the series, the Somniac entered Fort Winnifred. She demonstrated her powers, and agreed to advanced testing on the condition that her family would be left alone, uninvestigated. Her terms were (ostensibly) agreed to, and research began.

Unfortunately, all attempts to replicate her powers directly failed. While she was able to safely Desynchronize other people, none of the Desynchronized volunteers were able to actually become Conductors - they’d either severely injure themselves, or simply resynchronize. And while the Somniac’s personal abilities were impressive, they weren’t enormously valuable by themselves. Another solution was needed.

While Desynchronized wires were capable of the same effects as a Conductor’s nerves, they didn’t have the automatic power absorption that kept a Conductor from resynchronizing, and their size made them much less efficient for multiple roles. Exploration into utilizing the Somniac’s own tissue samples...

This still required some time, but Conductor technology was now viable. One of the very first projects was the Asynchronous Exoskeleton, an attempt to bypass the normal difficulties of simulating Pendulum directly.

On the one hand, the Conductors it produced weren’t nearly as versatile as the Somniac, and none of them could use their powers outside of the suits. On the other, what powers they could use were quite efficient, and individual modules could be made for various applications. As a side effect, they were much closer to a safe, public release, as soon as they’d solved their production bottleneck: The Somniac herself.

The descendant of the Asynchronous Exoskeletons, the Alterman Suits, are still hideously expensive, but more than twelve variants have been sent for “advanced testing”, AKA the Grant Bait Gala, when the convoy carrying them is caught in a massive explosion, as it crosses the highway over Jonasberg. Most of the suits are not recovered.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4061802673340377903.post-87684158961328926302015-08-20T06:00:00.000-07:002015-08-20T13:11:23.755-07:00Nuclear MagiHi.

Or the present, for that matter. All that can bee seen with this technique is the future, and all that can be done is to grant themselves power and a general direction - once their vision of the future solidifies, it’s effectively happened, and they can only regain true autonomy when the vision ends.

Nevertheless, it can be a potent way to gather power, and focusing on a single task - such as meditation or juggling - dispels most of the problems. A side effect of this, many people have supplanted their need for sleep, or healing outside of combat.

Another reason Self Observation is rare is that it can be stopped by pact suppression techniques, or by the direct influence of Observers - this only applies to those unbound by time; multiple Self Observers can and have interacted repeatedly, generally in combat.

It was used to create the Fifth Timeline, by uniformly accelerating the entire universe outside He who Wanders’ immediate sphere of influence, to such a degree that He Who Wanders was effectively frozen. This had the possibly unexpected effect of finally allowing him to reconnect with She Who Slumbers, and when he was finally able to react to this, he returned with her to their original universe. Continuum included the ability to selectively accelerate or decelerate various parts of the universe; achieving the effect of moving indefinitely fast or stopping the motion of targets, and The King also demonstrated the apparent ability to split himself into identical duplicates, each of which had access to his powers. Stolen Time is the only ability confirmed to be able to combat it, as it allows the caster to keep pace with the Last Dead Messenger. End of Days was almost certainly copied from this ability, although it displays a very different set of characteristics from what Continuum ever showed. Unlike all other Dark Natures previously displayed, Continuum does not need to be charged by killing people, and the believed reason for this is that it automatically collects a fraction of all the death magic that was ever released in his surroundings, although this is presumably limited to the portion that was unused.

His crowning achievement was stealing Paradigm from He Who Wanders, and using it to conquer the Fifth Timeline, but this was only possible with, and indeed that timeline was directly created by, the actions of the King Of Ended Time.

(A/N: Some explanation is necessary. Souls are not inherently bound by time, although all known vessels for them are, with up to two exceptions that depend on one’s interpretation of the Origin and the Afterworld. The reason that time travel is impossible is that it infringes on other souls; if one travels backwards more than a few instants, other souls must reassume their positions in the past, and for this to happen, all of those affected must be both willing and capable. Hence, direct alteration of one’s personal timeline is possible, but only if it does not directly affect others, as is altering the flow of time. The King of Ended Time is the first known entity to truly use this potential to its logical extent.)

Very popular, responsible for more than twice the sales of any other model, but actually had a fairly short production run, due to the release of the Model Five.

Somewhat popular, but not as much as it’s predecessor, resulting in reduced sales despite more than twice the production time. Production ends with the unwelcome arrival of the Model Six.

Changes are almost universally criticised, production halted. Design is renamed the Kallen Type B, gets an updated release alongside all future models, becomes reasonably popular in it’s own right.

Reasonably well received, but suffers limited sales due to previously alienated customer base.

Central body reworked to allow mounting of heavier missile pods and sensors, legs reworked to allow wheels. Gets marketed for military use rather than civilian, enjoys moderate success.

Very popular among civilian enthusiasts, but suffers limited sales among them due to cost.

Many systems streamlined, rockets now included by default. Sells reasonably well, but not exceptionally so.

Maybe this scheduling thing will become a regular thing? Hmm. Anyway, sorry for the nonexistent editing, I don't have time to fix it at the moment.

Vanka was from a poor-but-honest family, and didn’t have a sufficient means of support upon leaving it. Lacking a job, and with no better options, she signed up for the military. She was acceptable in boot camp, but certainly not exceptional enough to qualify for sniper training or officer pay, which she needed if she wanted more than the barest necessities, let alone to help her family. So when she was offered the option to sign up for experimental Power testing, she happily accepted, on the premise that it would be fairly simple, reasonably nondangerous, and not require surgery, as well as provide Special Operations pay and benefits. All of this was technically true. Technically.

In the deeply classified comedy of errors that followed, she was subjected to an attempt to exploit Self Observation as a Power source while still allowing adaptive thought, thereby removing the primary problem with that ritual. To this end they split her mind into Phantoms, with the instances identical save for being about half a second off from each other, and set them to take turns between controlling her body and Observing it. This produced rather less impressive power levels than hoped, and introduced a very slight pause time as the personas shifted roles. They attempted to solve these by adding more iterations, the latest of which would always shift from power generation to movement modeling right before it took control, allowing optimized, graceful movement.

This was a mistake.

Vanka is now host to more than twenty copies of herself, incredibly graceful and fluid in her movements, and utterly incapable of aiming guns at combat ranges. Her Grace lets her see and use the best future muscle movements for a task, but makes her sight a number of successive viewpoints, all from slightly different positions, and slightly different points in time, rendering it impossible to accurately aim at any moving target smaller than a shed. In response, she has been equipped with a few homing attacks, and a heavy melee Power loadout, although they’ve skimped a bit on the defense aspect due to her Grace doubling as a way to assist dodging, by allowing her to choose the movements that minimize wounds.

Apologies again, for the vary late update. I hope you enjoy it anyway - I know I like this guy.

Special Commando Akabane is very difficult to amuse, and is something of a gamebreaker. He developed a simple, fairly powerful ability called One-Shot, which he made his signature move. It allows him to fire any single, once, and hit his target, so long as it is physically possible. He can use it up to four times in rapid succession, after which he must pause, but unlike the majority of active abilities he can recharge it in the same action as reloading.
He has decided to exploit this with a custom four chambered revolver, and uses the freed room to load rounds traditionally reserved for Anti-Tank rifles. It is still quite large, but can at least fit in a handgun holster. He uses the Timed Shield system, like most of his country in his time, and chose his ability at least partially to take advantage of it.

His attitude is of someone who has seen many interesting things, Observed or not, and mostly just shot them in vital areas. He is a midgame boss, and is actually dangerous enough to qualify on his own, but has backup from his teammates Vanka and Kurlin, who are each only slightly weaker, making one of the most difficult fights in the game, to the point that it may be possible to lose and keep playing with a significantly altered storyline. Either way, both he and his team survive the experience.
He shows up again quite a bit later, as Akabane Reload. In this form, he is slightly less deliberately plain, doesn’t conceal his armor quite as much, and still carries his signature handgun. His major difference is in choice of ammunition; he now carries high explosive rounds as well as his standard armor piercing. The second appearance may or may not be as a bonus boss, but is almost certain to have some actual effect on the story beyond allowing access to the armory.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4061802673340377903.post-8822393553694235822015-07-09T22:41:00.002-07:002015-07-09T22:43:35.638-07:00Character Bio: Riot (Awesome Normal Universe)Hi. Sorry this is so late, this took a long time to edit. And is still a rather rushed job. It was actually two documents, now spliced together, that I'd found in my Google Docs.
I hope you like it anyway.

The Person:

Emily
Pembrook technically does have a conscience, it’s just a rare, first
edition version that only seems to work in certain circumstances. Said
circumstances don’t seem to include any time she is bankrupt, highly
upset, in obvious danger, or hungry.

It also seems particularly
fuzzy on the subject of avoiding potentially lethal fights, especially
when she appears to have the advantage - after killing her first four
people, she briefly panicked, but seems to have been primarily concerned
with police investigation. Following this, she assumed the persona of
Riot quite rapidly and with very few reservations.

As Riot, her
modus operandi was to find two armed opposing groups, often both
criminal in nature, wait for or cause a confrontation, and proceed to
raid both sides’ less guarded bases. As a strategy it worked remarkably
well, leaving her alive and unmaimed after at least seven attempts.

The Story:

Riot was a fairly good case study for why young women shouldn’t attempt to pay their way through college by becoming mercenaries. While there are worse ideas for handling the situation, there don’t appear to be many.

She began her career shortly after her third year of college, a reasonable engineer and an excellent mechanic, but sorely lacking skill in accounting, and as a result, she was unable to continue paying her tuition. In response, she attempted to pay off her student loans with the extra credit hours from building a working suit of power armor. This backfired spectacularly, as she had forgotten to take licensing costs into account, and landed her quite deep in debt.

With her available resources amounting to a few textbooks, a dorm room she’d soon be evicted from, an old desktop computer, and a partially licensed suit of power armor, she made the eminently reasonable decision to become a private security contractor, taking her powersuit and auditioning for a short term, high paying job that she believed to be, at worst, running security for bootleggers.

It turned out to much, much more impressive. A new drug lord was moving in, and she had been hired as an enforcer. By the time she figured this out, the warehouse she was guarding was in the middle of a raid by one of the local gangs, and she ended up shooting several of them in self defense.
She then panicked and ran, hid out for several days, and eventually calmed down and hid the armor before returning to school. Any thoughts of turning to the police were quashed when she saw the news story about the incident, and found that whoever killed four minors with an RPG launcher was being painted in about the blackest light the media had available.

Fortunately, no one who’d actually seen her face was still alive, and even the details of her armor were fuzzy at best. She then faced the realization that she’d never gotten more than the down payment, her boss was dead, and she was still in debt.

She tried to alter the armor, changing the details she could, and adding new ones. With her limited budget, this didn’t amount to much.
She then decided that the logical path to financing herself was to moonlight as a supervillian, but quickly realized that with her available resources robbing a bank was impractical. Not to be discouraged, she decided to rob one of the local gangs, instead.
This succeeded remarkably well, as she had been able to strike their hideout while most of them were out on a raid. She proceeded to engineer further conflict before robberies, including with the police, which on one, memorable, occasion, led to her stealing a police van sent to collect her.

As an actual career, however, raiding gang hideouts and stealing police hardware paid remarkably badly, all things considered. While this might possibly have been solved with the addition of a competent fencing operation, she had neither the knowledge of how to contact one nor, in all likelihood, the ability to use one if she did, as she’d made enemies of all the local organizations capable of facilitating such.
Just as likely, however, she actually got a fairly reasonable deal for her misbegotten goods, and simply ran afoul of the fact that crime does not pay quite as much as heist movies might have you believe.

In any case, she didn’t make enough to retire in the year she spent at it, and barely made enough to keep herself in college, although she was able to afford a proper workshop. Despite the initial press fury, she never bought actual rocket propelled grenades during her early career, sticking to the much less regulated rubber ammunition and the occasional flashbang. She eventually started making the highly lethal cryonic grenades that became part of her signature, but this was close to the end of her supervillain career.

The Armor:

The Riot armor is large, dark green, and bulky, especially the legs. The front of the helmet has three layers, the innermost one a bubble of bulletproof glass with an autopolarizing coating, followed by two retractable faceplates; the inner is split, retracting to the sides, the outer retracts over the head, and was added later.

The outermost faceplate enfolds two cameras, the feed from which can be projected over the mirrored glass inner layer, creating a somewhat flattened hologram. Said cameras include at least infrared and low light compensation functions, and appear to allow ultraviolet target painting, as well.

The primary engine is located on the lower back, just underneath the ammunition canisters, and what remarkably little noise it does make is suppressed by its casing. The most memorable feature of the armor, however, is the fact that the arms are both grenade launchers, with spiraling ammunition feeder tracks making up the majority of the arms. This naturally makes the suit’s dexterity rather limited, but she has designed the whole setup with sufficient durability that the barrels can be used as reasonable clubs, in line with the initial intention for the suit to be used in actual riot suppression, or at least act as a plausible model of such.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4061802673340377903.post-47515091290155803502015-07-02T06:00:00.000-07:002015-07-16T15:42:46.560-07:00Glass Soldiers (Binding Universe)Hi. The author is sorry this has barely been edited, it's actually very late as the author is doing this. When this posts, he will likely be unable to access a computer, so he's set it to post automatically.

Sometimes referred to as the Pilgrim’s War, the Holy Settlement Crusade was an attack by the Grand Sanctum, a semireligious state that decided it would be easier to conquer the Fourth Timeline, still recovering from the Dead Messengers, than it would be to actually find and terraform a suitable planet on which to build their empire. Their relative experience with magic allowed them to compensate for much smaller numbers of actual mages, and one of the most important factors in this were the Glass Soldiers.

Glass Soldiers are hard counters to almost all of the widespread Fourth weaponry, being almost completely immune to lasers or electricity, highly resistant to fire, only slightly more vulnerable to cold, impossible to properly target with Bloodforged weaponry, and prone to shattering into fast homing projectiles when actually hit, although they are remarkably durable. They were also impossible to truly kill without destroying both cores, located in the head and chest cavity respectively, which would each repair the other if damaged. Severing the connection between the two (via decapitation) would force them into a dormant state until they reconnected.
Unfortunately, even death will not immediately depower the glass, and will cause the main body to shatter explosively, often killing the one who actually destroyed their cores, considering the ranges generally necessary to do so.

Comet Shards are one of the few things that can consistently destroy them with relative safety, but only individually, in larger groups the splinters often reach sufficient density to penetrate the heat cloak. The other consistently effective weapon is Thunderbrand, which can shatter large groups of Glass Soldiers with single castings, while destroying both cores simultaneously. The large Fuel cost and the chance of collateral damage or friendly fire limit its usage significantly, however, although perhaps not as much as they should.

Lastly, their biggest advantage is likely that they can be mass produced fairly cheaply over a span of hours, including cores, ultimately requiring a bit of sand or glass, found in abundance on beaches or in deserts, a bit of copper, and a bit of iron, both found naturally in dirt, or, if more speed is necessary, the appropriate types of ore. After production, they could be deployed almost instantly by teleportation, and recalled in the same way. Led by mages for fire support and field command, they were very effective, to the point that most of the reason the Sanctum actually lost can be pinned directly in assistance from the Fifth.
With access to an Omnicrafter Ring, Glass Soldiers can be given simple upgrades in the form of eye gems, granting minor supplementary abilities based on the elements the gems are formed from. While the gems were relatively difficult to get ahold of, they could drastically improve effectiveness, such as Steel Gems to make them more durable, or water gems to make them flexible and good at swimming. The gems are interchangeable, allowing excellent versatility, and as a whole Gem Eyed take the role of elite soldiers, albeit expendable ones.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4061802673340377903.post-83932512206762331112015-06-25T21:53:00.004-07:002015-06-25T21:56:01.432-07:00Alterman Core CastHi. Sorry this is late. And incomplete. I'll get to the civilians when I finish making them.
Anyway, this is my attempt at making a Super Sentai type series. I think it takes place a few years after someone comes back from Pendulum, and shows the government her powers.
Upper middle in strength, speed, durability, and endurance, his special power is to massively increase his armor’s friction at will, which allows him to tear off other Altermen’s armor, which is normally too slippery to hold. As such, he has the vast majority of the nonlethal Alterman takedowns on record.

It turns out that GMing is fun, but difficult.

The Dhova Class Experimental Ultra Heavy Multitheater Combat Robot is one of the most advanced mecha yet created in the Fourth Timeline. Using Kardashen legs modified to integrate Kallen-style rockets, an enormous, segmented body, and the newly developed Sunbreath plasma cannon.
It takes the form of a robotic eastern style dragon, with gunmetal grey segments, each with a pair of legs attached, and a spherical head, primarily occupied by a plasma projector, which takes up the entire front of its otherwise featureless face.
It can fly at speeds comparable to those a tank can drive, and its ground speed is only slightly lower. It can also climb on solid surfaces, including those that could not naturally support its weight, due to the same gravity manipulation that allows it to fly. Primarily, though, it doesn’t use this ability much, simply being much lighter than it appears, as it is displacing most of its mass into a pocket timeline, where it also stores its ammunition.
It can be piloted or autonomous, and the autopilot is smart enough that p pilot must be quite well trained to grant notable improvement. Long range teleportation is possible with either, although the addition of a powerful Mage as a source can cut the charge time from fifteen seconds to five. Short range teleportation is also possible, but shifting the vast majority of the structure into its pocket timeline is almost always more practical.
Lastly, a linkup of eight Dhovii in a circular formation, forming a much thicker wormesque form, has recently been developed. Among other things, it is much faster in straight lines, flies by ion jet rather than the now linked foot rockets, and can act as a teleportation gate.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0
